Johns Manville
lawsuit settlement is dated in August 2004.
From the first lawsuit against Johns Manville company in
1966 as
shown on the first paragraph below to decades later, Travelers,
which insured Johns Manville has settled in 2004 (see second
paragraph below).
“The
first asbestos products lawsuit was filed on December 10, 1966, in
Beaumont, Texas, by attorney Ward Stephenson on behalf of his
client, Claude Tomplait. Mr. Tomplait had been diagnosed with asbestosis
in July of that year. The defendants were eleven manufacturers of
asbestos-containing insulation products, including Johns-Manville,
Fibreboard and Owens Corning Fiberglas.”

2004. The U.S.
Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York has issued
an order granting approval of a $500 million settlement of almost
all Johns Manville Corp. asbestos-related suits pending against
the Travelers property casualty subsidiaries of St Paul Travelers
