of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, have discovered data that
relates Parkinson's disease to exposure to fumes from welding
rods. Scientific studies have related Parkinson's disease to

rods and materials have sometimes referred to this welders'
illness as manganese poisoning or manganism. The Washington
University study states that the conditions experienced by welders
are not two different illnesses, but are in fact both Parkinson's

Parkinson’s
disease (PD) is a progressive disorder of the motor system.
Signs of this condition include trembling of arms, legs,
jaw and face, stiffness, slow motion, and loss of balance.
Research
is still being done for a cure, there are no blood tests for
diagnosis, but hope is given by a finding in the 1960s, when
patients showed loss of brain cells that produced a chemical,
dopamine, that directed muscle control.

The disease was
first documented in 1817 by James Parkinson, a British doctor who
wrote a paper about “the shaking palsy,” in which he described
symptoms for this disorder that now bears his name.
