Baycol is a drug that is used to restrain the liver enzyme that makes the type of cholesterol that blocks blood vessels.

Side effects linked to Baycol include usage at high doses, when taken by the elderly, and when mixed with  gemfibrozil--also called under brand name, "Lopid"--This drug is used to help adjust triglycerides or "good cholesterol." 

A serious side effect is called Rhabdomyolysis--skeletal cells die and thus muscle protein is released into the blood which can clog up the kidneys.

Also, potassium emitted from the damaged muscle cells can cause uncontrolled heart beats that can lead to cardiac arrest.

Symptoms of Rhabdomyolysis can comprise of muscle pain, lack of physical strength, fever, black urine, and vomiting.  Pain can be experienced in one group of muscles or spread throughout the entire body.
