Many healthcare
providers give excellent healthcare service. However,
sometimes, these professionals become negligent toward their
patients.
Also, because the
bottom line can sometimes contribute to medical malpractices,
including insurance companies placing pressures on doctors, or
doctors worried over their malpractice premiums, the focus
points toward the interests of insurance companies, doctors, and
makers of medical devices rather than the patients' rights.
A great example of
this is how the White House has supported a bill to place a
$250,000 cap on non-economic damages such as pain and suffering
and to decrease the financial rewards for attorneys who take a
case based on a contingency fee. The Democrats in the
Senate successfully stopped this bill, showing their concern
over the welfare of individuals who have already been harmed by
medical malpractice.
Individuals who
were injured or had deaths in their families such as a John
McCormack from Massachusetts have rallied against the cap.
His daughter, Taylor, at 13 months, died because of medical
mistakes.
