Bextra, also known as
Valdecoxib, and is in the same class of drugs as Vioxx--recalled
in September 2004, has also been recalled on April 7, 2005.
Bextra was prescribed by doctors soon after the withdrawal of
Vioxx.
Because studies have shown that the
following side effects of Bextra or Valdecoxib outweigh the
benefits, the FDA has asked Pfizer, Inc. to withdraw Bextra from
the market.

for increased risk of cardiovascular disease

Gastrointestinal
bleeding

Serious
skin reactions, some resulting in death.
