| Merck's
voluntary withdrawal of Vioxx from the United States market on
September 30, 2004 has launched lawsuits from patients who have
suffered from the side effects of this drug. One of these
lawsuits includes the ceoxx class action suit.
A drug named Rofecoxib, to
treat arthritis and acute pain, and is made by Merck, is known
in the United States by the brand name, Vioxx and is known in
other parts of the world by the brand name, Ceoxx.
A study showed that patients
who did not have any previous heart disease and who took Ceoxx
or Vioxx increased their chances for stroke or heart attack as
opposed to patients who took placebo.
